I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of
His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Calder's letter of the 3rd
March 1933 (92583/34/32) enclosing a copy of an Ordinance
which has been passed by the Legislature of Hong Kong
entitled "An Ordinance to consolidate and amend the law
relating to Companies".
In reply I am directed to request you to inform
the Secretary of State for the Colonies that My Lords
understand from the Board of Inland Revenue that so far as
that Board is aware there is not in Hong Kong a stamp duty
on the nominal capital of companies corresponding to the
duty charged by Section 112 of the (United Kingdom) Stamp
Act, 1891. The Board of Inland Revenue point out that if
there be no such duty the references to stamp duty in the
latter half of clause 48(4) and the proviso to that sub-
clause would appear to be unnecessary. Apart from this
My Lords do not wish to offer any observations on the

Ordinance.
